There are several mistakes that students make during the preparation for the GATE examination. But in this blog, we would like to point out the most common mistakes. You may be aware of some of these mistakes, and you have unknowingly developed mistakes that are wasting your time and energy.
1. Blinding Following Toppers
We read articles, blogs and watch videos about the toppers and their strategies to get motivated, and it also acts as a guiding light for us. But, we should remember that every person’s success story is different. Every person has different habits, mental capacity, and learning approach, so don’t blindly follow the toppers, and instead of that, adopt their good things and prepare your strategies.
2. Unaware of the syllabus
Before starting your GATE preparation for the examination, it is necessary to understand the syllabus. First, understand the syllabus and make your study schedule as per that, so you don’t waste your time on topics that are not in the syllabus.
3. Choosing Wrong Coaching Institute
If you are preparing for the examination on your own, skip this point. But if you have enrolled or planning to join coaching, this point is for you. Before joining any coaching institute for any course, make sure to visit the institute (if possible) to read their course manual, and enquire about their faculty, study material, and other things. You can also search Google and Quora for the reviews of the institute. Always make sure that the institute is the best fit for your goals and not just a waste of money and time.
4. Time Management Problem
Time is very precious as it will not come back, so manage your time wisely. Regularly go through your syllabus and make sure that you are going as per plan. Don’t waste your time on topics that are not important and insignificant.
5. Procrastination
There is a line, ‘The greatest amount of wasted time is the time taken to get started’ which means that instead of shifting preparation for tomorrow, start today with small steps. First of all, go through the syllabus and understand where to start. Be punctual and consistent with your GATE preparation. Don’t ever leave things for tomorrow, as you never know if there will be a tomorrow or not.
6. Health and Friends
Don’t fully involve yourself in preparation and forget everything else around you. Give time to things that make you happy, eat healthy, and spend some time with your friends that motivate and encourage you.
We hope this blog will help you with preparation and don’t repeat the mistakes in the future. Stay focussed on your GATE exam preparation and keep learning, keep growing.
